The Brain

Rapid evolution of technologies in sensors and wireless internet has been dramatically changing the way we live and think. Objects communicate with each other to collect, analyze, coordinate, and inform data to support people. As the Cogito by Descartes, “I think, therefore I am”, a network of objects thinks like the human brain, therefore becomes a living entity. Also, a building, which is an object composed of networks of living things, should be considered as a living being.

Our goal is to make an architecture as a corporeal being, and to provide a proper body with the mind of objects. As the ancient belief about microcosm and macrocosm that architecture shall resemble the order of human body containing the secret of the structure of the universe, the design proposal of the project is to create an Artificial Brain with the body inspired by human brain as a new typology of the public library in the age of Internet of Things. People will explore the Brain to attain the knowledge in their brain.

The Artificial Brain is composed of several architectural and spatial symbols as which the components and the structure of human brains are reinterpreted: Trees, Booktonic, Labyrinth, and Deep Forests. Not only through the technological interfaces such as apps or media devices, but the Artificial Brain also communicates with people on a subconscious level through such symbols, helping them discover the hidden treasures and fantasies in their mind.
